Results

While every client and every case is different, the same result is always the goal.  That goal is success.  At the Matlock Law Firm, Criminal Defense Attorney Shawn Matlock has had tremendous success in a variety of criminal and regulatory cases.  Although no past result can be indicative of future results, it can be helpful for prospective clients to see if an attorney has had success in their type of case.

Below is a partial list of results obtained by the Matlock Law Firm and Criminal Defense Attorney Shawn Matlock.

Murder: A high profile Murder case involving extensive local news coverage results in suppression of evidence illegally seized from client. After the District Attorney's office appeals the suppression order, the ruling is upheld by the Appeals Court clarifying the constitutional law regarding juvenile confessions in favor of client.

Driving While Intoxicated: Client charged with DWI following stop for reportedly speeding and nearly causing accident on major Metroplex highway. Client found Not Guilty after jury deliberations of only 12 minutes.

Federal Drug Charge: Client charged in Federal Court with Possession with Intent to Distribute more than 25 kilograms of cocaine. After extensive preparation and advocacy on behalf of client, the United States District Court sentences client to merely 60 months imprisonment. This marked a 93 month reduction in the sentencing guidelines and was less than half of any sentence given to the client's codefendants.

Appeal - Manslaughter:  Local physician charged with Murder for the death of an emergency room patient.  Although convicted at trial of Manslaughter, the conviction is reversed on the grounds of Factual Sufficiency.  The reversal is upheld by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and in doing so, the Court reaffirmed the legal concept of Factual Sufficiency for Texas defendants to utilize in attacking their convictions.

Sexual Assault of Child: Client charged with sexually assaulting child. District Attorney's office offer of 20 years imprisonment ultimately reduced on day of trial. Client receives 5 years Deferred Adjudication probation and no conviction nor was the client required to register as a sex offender.

Driving While Intoxicated by Drug: Client charged with DWI by use of Methamphetemine and LSD. Following trial which results in hung jury, case is reduced to Obstruction of a Highway with DWI charge dismissed.

Juvenile - Aggravated Sexual Assault:  Juvenile client charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault.  After extensive investigation, evidence is presented to District Attorney’s office that juvenile could not have committed offense and charges are dismissed.

Murder: Client involved in self-defense shooting. After thorough preparation and investigation into alleged victim, evidence is presented to District Attorney's office and local law enforcement. As a result, District Attorney's office is persuaded to not present the case to the grand jury. Client is never charged with a crime.

Assault - Family Violence: Client, with numerous prior convictions, including Murder, charged with Family Violence Assault. Following extensive investigation and preparation for trial, case is dismissed and charges dropped entirely.

Employee Theft: Client charged with Theft from company for which she worked. After investigation into coworkers and allegations, District Attorney's office is persuaded to dismiss case.
